Services

Keeping our student athletes at the top of their game is what our athletic trainers do every match, every practice, for many of our local schools with sports medicine and injury prevention that are just one part of an orthopaedic program that has received national awards, including the Women’s Choice Awards as one of America’s Best Hospitals for Orthopedics for the second consecutive year.
Pre-Participation Physicals
St. Elizabeth Sports Medicine strongly encouraes  that student-athletes obtain their pre-participation physicals from their primary care physician. In an effort to keep the quality of these exams at their highest, we are encouraging you schedule their sports physical with their personal physician in a timely manner.

However, in instances where this is not possible St. Elizabeth Sports Medicine offers a quality annual pre-participation physical examination. Athletes can schedule a private physical throughout the summer for $25.00. This physical is for the current sports season and meets all KHSAA regulations.  This physical is specific to sports participation and should not replace your child’s annual well visit with his/her pediatrician. Physicals will be held at our Edgewood and Florence offices.

ImPact Testing

St. Elizabeth Sports Medicine has been using ImPACTTM since the summer of 2010. Dr. Michael J. Miller is a Credentialed ImPact Consultant and both he and his staff have received training in the administration and interpretation of ImPACTTM. Dr. Miller has been managing concussions for area high school and college athletes who sustain a concussion since the clinic opened in 1988.

The ImPACTTM Test is a computerized test which can help to measure the cognitive/mental changes that occur when an athlete suffers from a concussion. This test can be used after a concussion to help in determining an athlete’s return to play guidelines.

Returning to regular athletic activity too soon after suffering a concussion can lead to serious consequences. ImPACTTM can help doctors determine whether or not an athlete is ready to return to play by implementing both baseline* and post-injury neurocognitive testing. Traditional neurological and radiologic procedures such as CT, MRI, and EEG focus more on identifying other serious concerns (including skull fracture, hematoma, contusion). By combining ImPACTTM with traditional tests, doctors are equipped with more than subjective observations or a patient’s self-reporting of symptoms to diagnose and manage a concussion.

Aquatic Therapy

Aquatic Therapy is a growing trend in physical therapy and sports medicine. Because it is a lot easier for patients who are experiencing pain to move in the water, therapists are able to use this method to treat everything from chronic conditions like osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia and multiple sclerosis to acute problems like rehabilitation after orthopaedic surgery or an injury.

Water-based therapy offers the benefits of buoyancy, so it’s ideal for people who need to reduce stress on their bodies. In fact, when you move on land, you can place up to seven times your body weight on your leg joints each time you hit the ground.

St. Elizabeth Sports Medicine Physical Therapists conduct aquatic therapy sessions at the Town & Country Sports and Health Club pool in Wilder, KY. Sessions usually last 30-45 minutes and are typically covered by insurance upon a referral from a physician.

Medical Motion

Medical MotionTM uses high speed digital video cameras to capture detailed sports movements.  The performance is analyzed frame by frame using state-of-the-art computer software. Abnormal biomechanical movements are detected and measured. Once the movements have been recorded and analyzed, experienced clinicians sit down with the patient and formulate a plan to alter poor movements using exercises and drills. By following the plan, patients can expect improved performance as well as a reduced risk of injury.

Medical MotionTM can be used to analyze motions in any sport including, but not limited to, cross country (running form), baseball (pitching and hitting), golf (swinging) and basketball (shooting and rebounding). Motion analysis can be performed at any of our three St. Elizabeth Sports Medicine clinics or arrangements can be made to perform on site at your school or facility.
